Philosophy of Approach
to the
Ministry of
Associate
Pastor for Community Outreach
September, 2001
The Job Summary for this position entails the design and administration of an overall program in four key areas for all those who worship at Folcroft Union Church: evangelism, social outreach, visitation and assimilation. My Philosophy of Approach will be developed individually in these four categories.
Evangelism: To identify correct biblical mandates and approaches to the spreading of the Gospel and to encourage the congregation in their God-given responsibilities to be “lights” in the world. To teach these standards through personal modeling and instruction with the eventual goal of changed hearts that long to share their faith in Christ in this world.
Social Outreach: To identify the social, emotional, physical and spiritual needs of this community through survey, interaction and involvement. To respond to those needs by utilizing the combined talents and abilities of the congregation at large. To personally interact with civic and social groups within the community in order to better serve and understand individual needs.
Visitation: To help the congregation take to heart their responsibility to not only welcome guests into the church, but to seek out people to invite in. To organize and oversee a system of follow-up which will insure that guests will receive a personal, friendly contact after their visitation. To do all possible so that a guest will feel comfortable to return and long to join the church family.
Assimilation: To take guests from the point of visitation to the point of residency. To develop detailed plans to help new members or new believers to identify their spiritual gifts and encourage them to use them. To identify opportunities to plug in new members for service, small groups, etc. To use all resources to make guests feel welcomed and desirous to stay.
With all this in mind, nothing can undermine the necessity of consistent, focused prayer. Therefore, my Philosophy of Approach begins and ends on this note. Not only am I committed to pray for each of these areas, but I will encourage others to do likewise.
